Ainsleigh Douglas is an immersive experiences designer who uses her knowledge of multimedia materials to fabricate interactive environments. Her process often involves exploring interactivity in a variety of formats, whether it’s through games or analog interface systems. In her work she integrates her background in electronics and architectural passions to create concepts for physical spaces, as well as digital environments.
The A/D Device synthesizes prior knowledge to translate the allure of analog systems into a more understandable form. Phases 1 and 2 aim to distinguish human tendencies towards analog, investigating interaction between simple machines and a curious audience. Employing microcontrollers, woodwork, and photoresistors, an automata is crafted, eliminating human influence. The outcome reveals machines accentuating the recurring desire to "click," independent of human input.
In A/D Device, Phase 3, organic design was inspired to bring back the natural instincts of the first phase while sticking with the completely tech driven aspect of the 2nd phase. The juxtaposition generated by this piece explores the tactility of physical objects, creating a thought-provoking environment for the audience.
