Mila Vovk

Mila Vovk is a ceramic artist who lives and works in Irvine, California, USA. She was born in Dresden, Germany, and grew up in Kazakhstan. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the State University in Veliky Novgorod, Russia, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Art in Pskov, Russia. 

Mila Vovk participates in many exhibitions and international competitions. She was a finalist in the Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Cheongju, South Korea. Her works are in the Collection of The Aveiro Biennial Museum, Aveiro, Portugal, and private collections in the USA and Europe.

My work delves into the quest for lines and abstract shapes in motion. Through my sculptures, I aim to depict captured movement at precise moments. Sometimes, it's the anticipation just before motion commences, while other times, it's the frozen aftermath of a once dynamic force. Within my pieces, one can discern the frozen progression of destructive or ruptured processes.

I am creating non-objective art for a space brimming with non-functional artifacts. My emotions are transforming into tangible visual entities.

The conception of each object is immediate and fully formed within my mind before I translate it onto paper. Every sculpture born of my imagination becomes an obsession, occupying my thoughts until I materialize it into form. This act of embodiment is essential for freeing my consciousness from its grip.

In my exploration of movement and time, I unravel a transformation narrative in which motion either births creation or foretells destruction. Each sculpture encapsulates a frozen moment of transition: the edge before motion unfurls or the aftermath where chaotic energy solidifies into an abstract form.
